ABOUT WEST MICHIGAN RIPTIDE BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL

The West Michigan Riptide Baseball Club is a premier travel baseball program representing West Michigan.  The West Michigan Riptide specific goals are:

  1. To play the best competition in the State and Midwest.
  2. To continue to improve and develop players fundamental skills and head for the game.
  3. To expose players to college coaches and professional scouts.
  4. To be positive representatives of West Michigan in how we behave on and off the field.
  5. To give our players a “college baseball” environment.
  6. To always out work and out hustle our competition.
  7. To always encourage each other to become a better player and person.

The Riptide Baseball Club was established in 2007.  The Riptide look for talented and quality individuals, as well as, supportive parents to be part of the program.  The parental support both financially and emotionally are vital for the success of the Riptide program.

The team competes in the most competitive tournaments in the State and Midwest.  In 2007, the team won the Championship of the Grand Haven Classic 17U Tournament and dominated the competition going 5 - 0.  We also played in the following highly competitive and scouted tournaments:  USSSA Firecracker Classic at Eastern Michigan University, Mayors Cup at Bailey Park in Battle Creek, Ultimate Strikezone at Central Michigan University,  Midwest High School Showcase in Grand Rapids, the Triple Crown Great Lakes Challenge at Central Michigan University and Northwood University, Fort Wayne Classic High School Wood Bat Showcase at St. Francis University, and the Triple Crown National Championships in Myrtle Beach , South Carolina.  As you can see, our boys were exposed to high level competition and performed extremely well.

Our players are given the opportunity to be treated as a “college athlete”.  When we  are on the road for a weekend tournament we run a tight schedule for the players.  The safety of our players is the first priority of the coaching staff, as well as, assuring players are respectful during the trips.  The coaching staff conduct room checks each night to assure safety, as well as, to discuss the schedule for the following day.  We stay at hotels (Ex. Hampton Inns) that are safe, and offer a quality breakfast and players are expected to be at breakfast.  We are continually praised by hotel staff, restaurants, other coaches, fans and umpires on the respectful way our players behave and how they play.

Our parents are given an itinerary for each trip which includes dates, hotel information, tournament schedule, room assignments, and code of conduct expectations.  Each night at the hotel the parents meet to discuss the days results, the next day’s schedule, and more importantly to enjoy the time together and relax.  Our parents do a great job of taking care of important things such as meal planning, assuring the team has a cooler for the upcoming games, and more importantly, enjoying the time together with family and friends.

We expect players to play at 100% and compete at a level that will make others proud in how they play the game.  Moreover, the coach’s communication with the players and families is vital to the success of the program.  We, as a coaching staff, understand that our main responsibility is to build our players self confidence and self esteem on the baseball field.  It is our mission to make better players, but more importantly, better human beings.
